The UK unemployment rate is now at the lowest rate since 1974

Figures released today (14th May) show that in the South East, there are 4,608,042 people in work – meaning that, under this Government, 415,703 more people have been able to access the security of a job since 2010. In West Oxfordshire, the number of people who are claiming key out-of-work benefits has fallen by 239 since 2010 – an overall reduction of 24 per cent, meaning fewer people now need this support because they have the security of a job. The figures also show that the number of women in work has reached a record high as the unemployment rate is at its lowest since the mid-1970s, at 3.8 per cent.
