Sir Keir Starmer Announces Resignation as Prime Minister

Sir Keir Starmer's resignation as Prime Minister marks another significant moment in British politics.

Whilst I disagreed with many of his political decisions, and his premiership was characterised by u-turn after u-turn and a number of serious misjudgements, we should never lose sight of the fact that being Prime Minister is the toughest job in politics.

The constant churn of Prime Ministers is not healthy for our country. Businesses, families and our economy need stability, certainty and leadership. Frequent changes at the top make it harder to deliver long-term solutions to the challenges we face.

Whoever succeeds Sir Keir inherits a massive task. They must steady the ship, restore confidence and take our country forward at a time when there are significant economic and international pressures.

I want our Government to succeed because when Government fails, we all pay the price. Politics should be about delivering for the people we serve, not endless political drama.

We need to get back to basics: common-sense politics, making work pay, growing our economy, creating more jobs, supporting aspiration and ensuring Britain stands tall on the world stage once again.

The next Prime Minister has a huge challenge ahead. For the sake of our country, I wish them every success.
