A councillor has launched a competition to again find the best pub in his division.
Oxfordshire county councillor Liam Walker, who represents the Hanborough and Minster Lovell division, is on the search for the best boozer, in order to encourage people to support the hospitality industry and keep our valued pubs going.
Mr Walker said: “The hospitality sector has been hit hard over the past few years with the impact of COVID and now the rising costs to operate, so I’m pleased to be again running my pub of the year competition, to celebrate the best of local pubs within the Hanborough and Minster Lovell division.”
Last year hundreds of votes were cast online, and it was The White Hart in Minster Lovell, run by Barbara Burkert and her husband Richard, which received the most votes.
At the time of the announcement of the winner Mrs Burkert said: “We are delighted to have won this award. We have worked really hard since taking over the pub back in June 2019. Then Covid-19 hit and the uncertainty of our industry was really stressful at times."
“We however made the most of the lockdowns, using the time to give the pub a much- needed makeover, and have come back stronger than ever. This award just shows that the hard work has paid off, and we’re now a thriving community pub.”
Mr Walker added, “I think this is a great opportunity to give our pubs the recognition they deserve after such a difficult period so I’m asking residents to not just vote but to support their local pub.”
Voting for Mr Walker’s pub of the year competition is due to close at midnight on November 30, with the councillor pledging to visit all 14 pubs over the next few weeks to help promote their business.
